Ghana’s biggest music stars astonished London with a sold-out event. Medikal, real name Samuel Adu Frimpong, was the headliner at the O2’s Indigo Arena on Friday night. The fans, many of whom were Ghanaians, were overjoyed to watch the country’s top talent.Mohammed Kudus, a Black Stars footballer who plays for West Ham in the Premier League, also attended the sold-out concert.
Footballer Mohammed Kudus handed dancehall king Shatta Wale one of his West Ham shirts. Medikal also hosted the musical spectacle, changing costumes and introducing each act on stage. In between, he performed some of his biggest hits. One of the highlights was his performance alongside Ghanaian singer Deborah Owusu-Bonsu, also known as Sister Derby, who also happens to be his ex-girlfriend.They performed their 2017 hit Too Risky, which they recorded while dating.
Other guests were British-Ghanaian UK chart topping Headie One, Black Entertainment Television (Bet) award winner Sarkodie, and highlife musician Bisa Kdei.
Efya’s remarkable vocal abilities prompted spectators to throw money on stage to demonstrate their appreciation, as is common during Afrobeats events. Before Shatta Wale performed, Medikal, 31, paid special respect to his friend, recounting how he mentored him at the beginning of his career and assisted him with money and automobiles – tales that elicited loud screams from the audience. The 39-year-old dancehall legend then walked to the stage to sing a medley of songs, including the 2022 hit On God, probably his biggest smash hit.
